Express condolences at ajc.com/obits LETTON, Roberta Mrs.

Roberta Letton was born in Ocala, Fla. to John Robert and Ethel Mae Rogers in 1916. Her family was one of the pioneer families that settled in Marion County in 1847 while the Indians were still active in the area. The family has always been politically active since her Grandfather was a coauthor of the State of Florida's Constitution. Her immediate family lived most of her life on that original land grant on the shores of North Lake Bryant on the western edge of the Ocala National Forest.

She graduated from East Marion High School at Lynne, Fla. before going to Florida State College for Women (now F.S.U.) where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics. During her first post graduate year she taught Home Economics and coached the girls athletics at Reddick, The following year she went with the U.S. Dept of Agriculture in teaching food preparation and canning along with other household talents including general health guidelines to the farm women in Pasco County near Lakeland. After moving to Atlanta in 1939 she was dietician at Georgia Tech, Emory Hospital and Georgia Baptist Hospitals.

She and Dr. A. Hamblin Letton were married in 1938. During World War II while he was on duty with the Navy she worked with the Georgia Citizens Council with Mr. Lon Sullivan by helping communities with their youth and other problems while so many men were away in the Armed Services.

She worked in the early days getting the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra started and with the American Red Cross blood drives. After the war she became active in the Fulton County Medical Society's Woman's Auxiliary serving later elected as President. She was a founding member of the Georgia Baptist Hospital Guild and served later as it's President. She was very active in the work of the Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church as Co-chairman of the Baptist Training Union for the Youth of the Church. She was elected President of the Woman's Missionary Union.

A group of Atlanta friends planned a trip to France on an Art Tour. During this time the integration of the church brought on very strong opinions by the various groups of the women and it became a serious problem, therefore she felt it her duty to stay home and try to bring harmony the group. She canceled going on the trip for she felt her duty to the Church took precedent over the pleasure of the trip to Paris. Unfortunately that plane crashed on take off from Orly Airdrome killing everyone aboard. She has been active with the American Cancer Society through the years and especially when Dr.

Letton was the National President of the Society. They visited over forty Divisions of the Society including Guam and they traveled around the world visiting the important Cancer Facilities in the northern hemisphere where she helped in giving advice to the volunteers and staff from a woman's point of view. Her travels including three trips to the Soviet Union where she consulted with the women about Cancer Control. She was a founder of the Woman's Auxiliary to the Southeastern Surgical Congress and later its President. She helped plan and execute the various women's activities and tours during their annual meetings.

She and Dr. Letton had two children. Robert Hamblin Letton who died in 1990 and Mrs. Alice Roberta Zachodzki who lives in Charlotte. They have one grandson Christopher Letton Zachodzki, who graduated from Roanoke College this month.
